Johnny Gemmell wins rally for the Toyota Castrol Team

Johnny Gemmell and co-driver, Peter Marsh came out tops at last weekend's Toyota Dealer Rally, Castrol Toyota team's 5th win this season! This is a great ending for the RunX in rallying as it is replaced by the Auris rally car starting next year.

Serge Damseaux
along with co-driver Robert Paisley sadly had to drop out of the race due to a broken wheel; having hit the exposed roots of a tree in what was his last race as he retires after 26 years of racing. Ins and outs of rallying

Auris Rally car - front viewWhat makes rallying cool besides the funky colours, in-your-face logos and extreme speed? Well, I don’t really know except that there is something really fantastic about specially built road-legal cars (the Auris this weekend – not racing competitively but merely for time) tearing up a storm around public and private gravel-induced roads through tons of mud in every imaginable condition…exciting right?  read more »

Live from the Toyota Dealer Rally part 2

Auris rally car - Superspecial 1It's still rainy and awfully muddy here at Kurhula Rallystar and I'm still excited. I first saw Toyota Hilux zero cars circle the routes to be taken by race cars to follow. Right after that two Aurises, also zero cars in this event, sped off into the the track, sending mud flying onto spectators who were getting a close view and also onto Crowd Control guys right next to the track. It's reminiscent of the annual Glastonbury festival.

There are two routes: one long and the other short. Each car gets a turn to run each route and should theoretically finish at the same time. At the bends you could see the cars pull off impressive power slides. The type that you take forever to master on your gamepad when playing a game like Colin McRae: DiRT. In real-life it's just so much more satisfying.  read more »

New Auris S2000 at Toyota Dealer Rally this weekend

The Toyota Auris S2000 makes its first public appearance at this weekend's Toyota Dealer Rally. The rally spans over two days, Friday and Saturday. Day 1 starts at East Rand Toyota, to the Bapsfontein and then back to the starting point while Day 2 activities are all in the Bapsfontein area.

The Auris S2000 will not be racing but will instead be driven along with other zero cars (opening cars). This is a fantastic opportunity for the public to see the car in action. It will be driven by Anthony Taylor along with Andre Vermeulen as navigator. This will allow the Auris S2000 to run in realistic rally conditions which will help in the preparation of the prototype for homologation.  read more »
