South African Rally Championship

Looks like the Auris S2000 is on the pace.

3. Hurgen + 15 sec
4. Enzo + 16 sec
5. Jean-Pierre + 3 sec

Body shell

• Toyota Auris 4-door hatch body shell with FIA specification chrome molybdenum roll cage. It is also HANS Compatible.
• Transmission tunnel and rear suspension turrets manufactured as per FIA S2000 regulations.
• Tubular fabricated front and rear cradles.

Engine

• 3S-GE "Beams" 2000cc engine with 64 mm single butterfly inlet as per FIA S2000 regulations.
• Bore is 86.0 mm
• Stroke is 86.0 mm
• Power: 190 kW
• Torque: 240 N-m
• Rev limited to 8,500 rpm

Transmission

• FIA specified SADEV six-speed sequential 4 wheel drive gearbox with intermediate, front and rear differentials.

Mark Cronje and Robert Paisley Castrol Toyota RunX to a 40 second win on the Volkswagen Rally, round five of the Sasol SA Rally Championship.

Johnny Gemmell and Peter Marsh were involved in an accident that cost them 10 minutes. Although they landed in 26th position by the end of Friday, on Saturday they fought back to claim 9th place and 12 championship points.

Turns out that privateer, Mohammed Moosa's Auris A6 didn't race at all at the event! From Rallyworld.net: "Mohammed Moosa's Toyota Auris will not make it in time for the VW Rally - a few vital components are still being sorted out...". The 25th Volkswagen Rally takes place this weekend (11 - 12 July, 2008) at Uitenhage and Port Elizabeth. This is the 5th round of the Sasol SA Rally Championship.

The Castrol Toyota team has had an incredible VW Rally record, with six wins in the last eight outings since year 2000.

Four-time rally winner, Johnny Gemmell (Castrol Run X) has said, “The VW Rally is a good event. There’s a nice mix of tarmac and challenging forests although there’s a new route this year, so it will be interesting to see what the organizers have come with. I quite enjoy the tar stages, especially the stage at the Scribante track as it offers us something different”.  read more »
